About Us
Who we are & What we do
Patient Advocacy is a system in which we work directly for the patient to help navigate the complexities of the healthcare system. We put the patient's interests first and assist with communication among families and medical providers to help meet the patient’s healthcare goals.
Through Pam's years of work in the healthcare system, she has realized the need for better communication between patients and their providers. She also feels patients need a better understanding and more autonomy in their healthcare decisions. Therefore, HealthTogether was formed.
Pam has earned the BCPA designation (Board Certified Patient Advocate).
This certification is earned by those who’ve passed the official certification exam. See details
Providing you with the best care
Pamela Sigmund
PA-C, BCPA
Pam has been working within the healthcare system since the mid 1990's, initially as a critical care nurse for several years, and then as a Physician Assistant after graduating from the University of North Dakota Physician Assistant program in 2004. Her time as a Physician Assistant has given her ample opportunity to get to know the various settings of the healthcare system as she has worked in hospital medicine, Interventional Radiology, and currently in Cardiology for Iowa Heart Center/MercyONE.
Pam’s passion for patient advocacy comes from the front line. As a medical provider herself, she knows how difficult it can be for patients to comprehend their medical issues, and as a provider, she knows how difficult it is to have adequate time to explain things effectively. She brings her wealth of knowledge as a healthcare professional along with her caring and understanding personality. Pam’s empathy for her patients is evident in all of her clinical interactions.
She has seen the challenges that compromise patient care and wants to make a difference.
Pam is originally from central Iowa, yet has lived in Phoenix, Indianapolis, and Sioux Falls. She now resides on an acreage outside Des Moines with her husband and twin son and daughter.
